It's never too late to find a passion that ignites your creativity and brings joy into your life. My fused glass journey started as a simple suggestion from a friend. She encouraged me to take a class, and as an empty nester looking for engaging activities, I decided to give it a try. Little did I know that this new hobby would evolve into a fulfilling business that allows me to express my love for nature and art through glass.
The Beginning of My Artistic Adventure
The moment I stepped into my first fused glass class, I was captivated by the colorful sheets of glass and the creative possibilities that lay ahead. The very first project I tackled was a kiln-carved tree. I remember pouring my heart into it. I know it belonged with my daughter and her family. She proudly displays it in her home today.

This initial success fueled my passion. I began taking more classes to expand my skills and learn various techniques. I embraced the learning curves that came with different approaches to fused glass, from stacking to layering to kiln carving. Each new technique opened up a world of possibilities, allowing me to express my visions.
Keeping Ideas Fresh
One of the more challenging aspects of my fused glass journey has been keeping ideas fresh. As with any creative endeavor, it can be easy to fall into a routine. To combat this, I draw inspiration from observing nature. The patterns in leaves, the colors of flowers, and even the shapes of clouds can spark new ideas for my glass creations. I find myself taking photographs of what I see to reference later. Nature is an endless source of inspiration, and translating those observations into glass art is a rewarding challenge.

Building a Community of Collectors
What truly brings me joy is seeing collectors or repeat customers coming back, excited to see new creations. As my skills evolved, so did the range of styles and pieces I offered. I focused on creating unique items that appealed to both seasoned glass collectors and everyday enthusiasts.
The Power of Learning and Collaboration
To continue evolving, I actively seek opportunities for learning. I attend workshops, take online courses, and engage with other artists in the glass community. Collaboration is key; learning from others not only enhances my techniques but also sparks new ideas.
For instance, I recently took a class focused on manipulating glass powders into nature-inspired designs.. The unique and interesting effects of this technique opened my eyes to new realms of creativity and allowed me to explore light and color in ways I had never considered before.
In addition to classes, I participate in local art shows and exhibitions. These events not only showcase my work but also create a space for dialogue with other artists and potential customers. Listening to their stories and experiences enriches my own journey while helping me grow personally and professionally.
Resilience and the Road Ahead
Every artist faces hurdles, and I am no exception. Some pieces don’t turn out as expected, or I may struggle with a particular technique. However, I have learned that resilience is part of the creative process. Embracing failure has enabled me to grow and refine my skills. Through resilience and adaptability, I am excited for what lies ahead. I aim to continue innovating and exploring new themes in my work.
Every step in this journey brings new challenges and opportunities, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. From my first kiln-carved tree to the joy of seeing collectors return excitedly, every moment has been a rewarding experience.
