Loving Landscapes

I had the pleasure of working with my friend Fred Buxton at Raining Sunshine Studios recently. He helped me refine our approach to landscapes with depth, and I taught him how to do fossil vitrea (using plants in glass).

It was hard not to be inspired by the amazing view outside the windows of his studio - towering trees, stunning flowers, singing birds, breezes creating whispers in the woods, and gorgeous, sunny skies of Washington. I kept remembering a verse from a song I knew as a teen - "the bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle..."

I created a landscape scene using glass paints, frit, and tree trunks that I literally pulled from molten glass! The piece showcases the many rhododendrons that grow wild in the area. Working together to create art was a true joy! I can't wait to apply these techniques and make more beauties...in fact, I have an Aspen scene ready to fire. Stay tuned.
