Color Matters
Everyone has a favorite color - quick, what's yours? Now, why is it your favorite color? How does it make you feel? Is it the same one you had as a child?
The simple fact that everyone has a favorite color speaks volumes about the importance of color in our daily lives, and for us, in our Fused Glass work. Lately, my favorite color has been green which means balance growth, and restoration. It also reflects the colors of nature, where I go to find balance. One of my favorite quotes speaks to this:
"And into the woods I go to lose my mind and find my soul." - John Muir
Sue's favorite is blue, which means content, control, and spirit, traits that come through in her design.
In fact, color is one of the reasons we were attracted to glass as a medium for our art. The range and diversity of colors we use, and the way the react and interact, literally makes them infinite.
Color is an important consideration in our design process. We choose colors to communicate ideas, feelings, impressions, and more. Be it a fall scene or the first buds of spring, or an abstract design reflective of the Mid-Century Modern era, color is essential.
Each piece is designed with specific colors in mind that evoke feelings or create the impressions we hope to communicate through our art.
That's not to say we don't build designs around colors, especially when we work on custom orders, like this skirt, which is part of a bigger sculptural piece for a client.
Color is everywhere and it is powerful in its ability to influence feelings, decisions, and environments. So there you have it, color matters!
