Fused Glass vs. Blown Glass

Often when people see our work, they ask if we blow the glass. We explain that our glass is fused in a kiln, typically over the course of several days and firings. So what really is the difference between fusing and blowing glass? Fused Glass Fused glass, sometimes called kiln formed, warm glass or, kiln-glass, is fired in a kiln to bond glass together. Most fusing methods involve designing, cutting, stacking or layering thin sheets of glass. Different colors, sizes, and textures are used to create patterns or complex images. The pieces are then placed inside a kiln and heated until the separate pieces begin to bond. Most fusing is done in temperatures ranging from 1,100 °F to 1,700 °F. Full,

Beads, Glorious Beads

Did you know that we make every single bead we use on our glass pieces? It's loads of fun to create different color and blends, but tons of work to make them. Each bead is made of two pieces of the same size glass, all cut individually by hand. These are stacked in the kiln and fired. Different temperatures are required for different colors of glass to ensure the best quality. After firing, we pick up each individual bead by hand, wash and sort them. Then the fun starts. We can design pieces specifically for beads or use them as embellishments. Some pieces with beads are full fused to look like dots and others are tack fused so their texture becomes part of the art. And there you have it. Al

Thank you!

As we concluded our show season this past weekend, we took a minute to sit down and think about how far we've come in 2017. It's been a thrilling and fun-filled year. Among other things, this year we... ... published our website and expanded our Instagram and Facebook presence. ... supported some amazing nonprofits including Healthcare for Homeless Animals. ... met wonderfully talented glass artists from all over the world in Las Vegas and online. ... shared ideas and experiences with a local group of glass artists here in Southern California. ... learned new techniques through classes and experimentation! ... created new products, art, and pieces that were welcomed by so many of our collect

Las Vegas Here We Come!

Every April the Glass Craft and Bead Expo is held in Las Vegas and glass artists come from around the country and world to teach, learn, share, and experience fused glass. 2018 marks the second time we will attend this event, and we are thrilled to be taking four full-day classes exploring glass powder, textures, layers, and more. Be sure to check back next April when we'll share photos of the week on Instagram, Facebook, and here. ~Bonnie and Sue
