Meet Puma, Our Baby Kiln

August 5th was an exciting day for us as it was the first time we fired up our new baby kiln, Puma. So why did we christen it Puma? Our studio is near the Santa Monica Mountains in Southern California, which is home to mountain lions, aka pumas. The National Park Service tags these cats and calls them by names like P20, pictured below. Our kiln's model number is P120, which reminded us immediately of these beautiful creatures. So Puma it is. And like these big cats, our Puma an amazing powerhouse, but in a small package. In fact, it has a handle like a carry on suitcase, which is how we move it around the studio! Perhaps most exciting, is we can fire both glass and ceramics, and even both at

When Life Gives You Boring Buttons...

"Everything you can imagine is real." - Pablo Picasso This is one of our favorite quotes and part what guides us in our art. If we can imagine it, we can create it. About a year ago I found these amazing pillows for my living room, but they had big, boring, brown, plastic buttons. So, I thought, why not make my own buttons to replace them? I'd never done this nor seen it done anywhere. People warned me, "Uh glass - aren't you afraid they will break? Won't they feel uncomfortable?" I considered the comments and forged ahead. Happy Birthday CS26!

One year and two months ago today, our first fused glass kiln was delivered! It was monstrously heavy and we were in awe of the lone delivery man who dragged it uphill onto the driveway and into the studio - fully crated and boxed. It took the ingenuity of two Boy Scout leaders and an Eagle Scout to figure how to create enough leverage to lift this 500 pound beauty up and onto the movable rack! We're eternally grateful to these guys! Today, this is where the magic happens, where glass is transformed into the stunning results we imagine as we create! So, happy birthday, kiln friend. We hope to celebrate many, many, many more with you. #kiln #FusedGlassArt #fusedglass #artstudio
